Did you know that Singapore's Chinatown is commonly known in Mandarin as "Niu Che Shui," which translates to "bullock water cart"? This name originates from the 19th century when fresh water was transported to the area by bullock-drawn carts, highlighting the community's resourcefulness in overcoming early water supply challenges


Exploring Chinatown today, visitors can immerse themselves in this rich history by visiting the Chinatown Heritage Centre on Pagoda Street. Housed within three beautifully restored shophouses, the centre offers a glimpse into the lives of early Chinese immigrants, showcasing their struggles and triumphs in a new land.

Fair price in really good location, it’s just right next to MRT Chinatown. Also, the cleanliness was good there. The staffs were nice with me.

Seem this is next another hostel to stay. It's not far from MRT station so, if u travel with big suitcase, u could breath taking


Room is nice, communal kitchen is alright, toilet is okay

It's worth a couple more $ to stay right in the heart of Chinatown where the action is. Clean place good service, provide lockers and you can bring or buy a lock from them for $4. Met some cool people.

The best and  economic backpackers lodge in China town , Singapore very close to metro station . Very well maintained and the check in and check out process is very smooth .

Getting Here from Changi Airport




By Taxi (20 mins | SGD 30 per ride):


Arrive directly at Royal Hostel, 73A Pagoda St, Chinatown.


By Shuttle Bus (35 mins | SGD 9 per ride):


Approach the Ground Transport Desk at any arrival hall to book the shuttle bus.


By MRT Train (60 mins | Below SGD 3 per ride):


  1. Board the MRT at ‘Changi Airport’ station (Terminal 2 or 3).
  2. Travel west on the Green/East-West line to ‘Tanah Merah’ station.
  3. Switch platforms at ‘Tanah Merah’ station.
  4. Continue westward to ‘Outram Park’ station.
  5. Transfer to the Purple/North-East line at ‘Outram Park.’
  6. Travel northeast to ‘Chinatown’ station.
  7. Exit at Exit A and follow the map above to Royal Hostel.
